Call Remington at 800-243-9700, Mon-Fri 9-5 EST and ask them.
They will tell you an approximate date.

I have never seen a complete Remington serial number list published.

Remington uses a letter code on the left side of the barrel as the date code. Should be either two or three letters. The first is the month, the second and third are the year. This only helps if the original barrel is still on the rifle. The chart is on page 2036 of the 28th edition of the Blue Book. It says"Remington Date Code Data & SxS Shotgun Serialization" but it works on rifles also. If you don't have a Blue Book, post the letters here, or pm me and I can look it up for you.

So can someone with a Remington book look up A68108XX ???? I'm going to look at it tomorrow (Tuesday) some time. .30-06, 4-12x Bushnell scope on it. The guy didn't know much about it. This will be my first gun purchase, so I'm trying to find out what I can going in. Thanks guys.

Contact Remington

Misternothingman,

Go with the advice of rcmodel above and contact Remington at 800-243-9700, Mon-Fri 9-5 EST. I have called them 3 times in the last 2 months and it takes no time at all. My longest wait was about 5 minutes (right before Xmas), others were almost immediate. You can get the date of manufacture and the exact model/features of your Remington. It is the easiest way to go.

Print a copy of the barrel code mentioned above, take it with you tomorrow, that will tell you the manufacture date, year /month. Guessing here but an "a" serial number is probably 70's. Barrel code is your real answer.

Thanks people. I'm the proud owner of a .30-06 ADL from August of 79. The stock is in GREAT shape, and the scope on it (3-9x Bushnell Sportview) will do for now, but I'll definitely be upgrading that before this fall's deer season. Can't wait to take it back to the farm and put a few rounds through it!
