Resized_20170710_213910.jpg I just made an impulse purchase of a gun. The sign in the display case said "Browning 9 mm". I assumed it was a 9mm Luger. On the left side of the slide is a circle with a large "C" with a small "v"
at the top of the C and a "Z" in the center of the circle with a line through it. Then MOD> 83 cal. 9 Browning.

I thought I was buying a Browning 9mm (luger) pistol.

I now believe I have a CZ 83 in .380 caliber.

So it takes .380acp ammunition, correct? or . 9x18 Makarov ? are they the same?

Next, itlooks seriouly like a Beretta model 84 that I have. are they the same gun?

Source for mags?

(Sorry for the package of oreos!)

Thanks,

actually, I did find that first article. that where it mentions .380 acp and 9 mm mak (which I have never heard of). are they the same as each other and .9mm Browning?

could not find a comparison to Beretta 84 though.

thanks for the reply.

No, the .380 ACP (aka 9x17mm, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Browning) is not the same as the 9x18mm Makarov.

The 9x18 Makarov would be a CZ 82. You have a .380 which is similar but not the same. They are not interchangeable. The diameter of the 9x18 is wider than the .380 and the case of the 9x18 is longer.

Outstanding guns. A cz82 in 9x18 Makarov was my first center-fire handgun, and I still love it to death after acquiring many more. I think you'll find it to be a very reliable, very accurate gun. Nearly totally ambidextrous, ergonomic, and high capacity for the caliber. They're made by CZ (ceska zbrojovka), the same folks that make the iconic CZ 75.

Magazines can be had direct from CZ, or through Brownells, Midway and other dealers. They're pricey, ~$40 - $50. Be wary of cheaper aftermarket mags, I've bought a few that didn't function, and one that didn't even seat fully.
I'd also recommend Marschal Grips if you want to class it up a bit, they're excellent: http://www.marschalgrips.com/?content=CZ-models

They're a completely different gun from the Beretta 84, but they're similar enough in size that my cz82 lives in a Beretta 84 holster quite snugly.

Nice find on the CZ83, opr1945.

I have the CZ82 and wish it was a CZ83 on occasion due to the fact that some ranges near me don't allow shooting steel cased ammo, which is what the cheap 9mm Mak tends to be.
