Traditionally, we at CZF see alot more discussion/sales of the CZ 83 as the
weather warms up. There are some excellent buys on used 83's and even
the no longer imported 9 X 18 Makarov models.

The .380 is no powerhouse, but the CZ83's superb action and ergonomics
(fits most everyone) will make a fan out of you very fast.

Hi-caps and a good holster (HBE pancake) combined with Hydra-Shoks or
other defensive JHPs make for a good summer carry package.

I know of some folks who carry the 83 in hot/humid weather year round.
One of them has used his CZ in 9mm Browning (as it is called overseas)
to good effect against car-jackers.

My new RAMI will get more attention this summer season. The old model
CZ83 will be missed a bit.

I have the cz 83 on my list as a possibility for my first gun.
Was hoping to try one out here if I can find a range that rents it.
Was also hoping to try the 9mmx19 mak version of it, however
it does not seem to be on the allowable hand guns for Cali list.

So many guns to try. I do appreciate informative posts from users
like you and others covering their likes an dislikes and comparisons.
It is most helpful and why I seek in these forums.

I am in the process of trading a M686 safe queen for a CZ-83. I had a chance to handle a CZ-83 at a local store at a local store. I was very impressed with the fit, finished and ergonomics. I also like the ability to carry cocked and locked.
I can now carry a more suitable gun in the summer and give my beloved LW Commander the rest, refurbishment and refinish it deserves after seven years of service.
The CZ-83 I am getting is a rounded triggerguard model with two(count'em) two hi-cap mags. I am really looking forward to getting the call from my dealer to go pick it up. I think I am getting a much better trade than the Mak or Bersa I was trying to trade for.

CZ 83 is IMHO the best .380 on the market right now. Mine's a very sweet shooter that my wife really likes for the low recoil, but she can't rack the slide.

But its only a 380, and for summer carry there are many 9mm and 40 S&W guns that IMHO are far better choices for the same size & weight to carry and conceal.

Cocked'n'Locked or hammer down DA/SA carry pretty much covers all the bases, although you do have to manually lower the hammer on a loaded chamber for DA/SA carry.

CZF,
You hit it right on the head! I love shooting my 83...mine's a nickel finished unit that is as accurate and handy as they come. I did not choose it for my primary CCW unit (we will soon have CCW here in MO) because I wanted a .45 ACP and chose a Glock 36 instead...however, my 83 will get a chance to get out and about!

It fits me like a glove and I have large hands. It's honestly the only factory gun I own that has such a great trigger, I'd turn down a free trigger job...I like the factory trigger that much.

Regarding the abilty for the gun to ride cocked & locked...I also like that feature...I have a 75B SA and 97B SA and I would never trust either of those in cocked & locked mode (carry wise). The safety/lock latch on those two CZ models is NOT positive enough for my trust. The 83 has a VERY positive lock latch and should never be problem carried in cocked & locked.

The CZ-83 is a wonderful gun...it's only "issue" (for me)...it's a blow-back design like most all other .380's and after a box of "blow-backs" or so at the range, it can start to "wear you down" a bit...but the Makarov, Bersa, PPK, Sig and other blow-back guns wear me out sooner than the CZ-83...I think because of the CZ-83's extra mass...but what do I know.

The only .380 I own that does not "beat me up" is an old Llama .380...it's not a blow-back unit. That old Llama is a mini-1911 design and is a dream to shoot! But, it IS NOT nearly as reliable as the CZ-83 or the other .380's mentioned above.

I'm always amazed at the accuracy of my CZ-83. It's my "every trip to he range" gun. It eats anything I feed it but it seems to like S&B hard ball the best. I have no idea how many rounds thru it so far but it has NEVER had a feeding, firing, or extraction problem.:D
