Hey guys,

I have a rossi 92 in 454 casull. I believe the issue to be the aftermarket stock not being inletted properly and inhibiting the full range of motion of the action. Before I inlet too much out I’d like your guys opinions.

The rifle functions with no stock, it also functions with the stock, however when any sort of recoil is introduced, the hammer follows the bolt home. The 454 certainly has recoil in a 5lb rifle and I replicated it with my rubber mallet. I think there is slop in the stock that is being driven in.

Here is a video:

It very well may be the stock that is causing you troubles. However without me looking at in person its hard to come up with any sort of definite conclusion. If you have slop in the stock then you can have it bedded to five it a tighter fit and remove the slop. The more it hammers back and forth in the stock, the worse the condition will get. That’s where I would start.

Use inletting fluid, cheap nasty lipstick, or lampblack (very messy) on the action to determine where it contacts the stock and where it doesn't. Then use your mallet to replicate recoil, check again. That might give you a clue where you need to fix.
