Don't know of any sporter turnbolt rifles that have receiver sights. Is that what you mean by "rear mounted"? Most manufacturers make turnbolts with open sites mounted on the barrel. You can easily buy and mount a Lyman receiver site on, for example, a Remington 700. Am I missing something?
I mounted a lyman 48 receiver sight to a 700 remington. The left side of the receiver was already drilled. The only mods. I had to do was take off some wood from the stock. It was really a nice setup. This was done in 1968 when rifle scopes were not nearly as relaible as scopes of today, not to mention their cost.
I don't own one yet, though I am thinking about doing an FFL transfer on one of those as my Mosins are fun and I like the russian designs, but I think the 22 might be cheaper on ammo and my shoulder .
The only modern bolt gun I can think of that comes with military sights is a Steyr Scout.
Bolt-action sporters have never been common with sights like a No 4 Enfield or an AR.
Those sights are made with a different purpose in mind: hitting a man-sized target somewhere, at a wide range of distances. They're not meant for bullseye shooting or ethical big game hunting at a distance.
Peep sights are a popular aftermarket item, though.
Now iron sights like a Mosin or a No1 Mk3? Those are common on most bolt guns, in some configuration or other.
A Ruger 77 International, Remington Model 7 MS (Custom Shop), a full-stock CZ, etc. are some of the closest modern rifles to an old military rifle in appearance and feel, without the ungodly price tags of some other European guns.
EDIT: Oh wait. I just saw the price of the Remington. I didn't know they were THAT much. Scratch the Model 7 MS.
Several high-end competition/sniper rifles have mounting provisions for "factory" or standard adjustable sights, including the Tubb 2000 and the AI-AW.
I don't think you'll find that style of sight on many rifles that aren't military-surplus, since loads vary enough otherwise that the calibrations will be off.
