The hammer on my ROA is just a touch too far to get a good purchase with my thumb without shifting my grip a bit. I’ve wanted something like a Bisley hammer but this isn’t an available option (someone periodically makes them for these but won’t produce them without enough orders to fill if I understand correctly).

I’ve wondered about cutting the hammer off and then cutting a wedge off of one side and having it welded back together so as to reconfigure the alignment. But is this possible to do with a stainless hammer and still look good?

I assume this can more easily be done with my blued Remington NMA hammer.

What can be done?

Tom Wildenauer cut and rewelded the hammer spurs to be a bit lower on two of my blue ROAs. You can contact him at:

What they look like; not much of a change but it does make a difference shooting one-handed (duelist) style. If you lower the hammer spur too much, it can hit the web of your thumb either when cocking or firing. Not much of a problem for deliberate target shooting, but aggravating when going for speed in a cowboy match.

That looks close enough for what I need. Not a lot but just enough to get a better purchase. Thanks!
