Mold in my vault

65% is a sure way to get steel to rust. I have rooms filled with vintage guitars and LPs. I keep them at 45% max. humidity. Storing firearms in a basement is not a good idea.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I changed the setting on the dehumidifier to 35%. I also sprayed the areas that had mold with a bleach mix to kill it. This weekend I am going to remove the shelves, gun racks and the NFA safe and seal the inside with Drylock sealer. The nice thing with the Drylock is it is white, so it will brighten it up in there. Just changing the setting on the dehumidifier has made a noticeable difference in the air quality. I don't know where I heard that the humidity should be as high as I had it. Live and learn I guess!

I would shoot for about 50% humidity. I would also add some air circulation/movement.

The best way to find out if moisture is wicking through the concrete is put pieces of duct tape at various places on the walls, floor and ceiling. Wait at least 24 hours and then lift the tape. If moisture is leaking through the concrete the area will be wet. This will tell you your problem areas.
