It has been much too hard to get folks together to go shooting lately. I finally managed it Monday night.

We started out with my Madsen M50 subgun. My 11 year-old fired a two round burst off of a benchrest at a silhouette a few yards out. He was pleased because he added a new gun to his "Guns I Have Shot," list.

Then several of us shot a stage I threw together. First was the silhouette which had to have at least three in it. Most people shot from the hip. Hitting the target wasn't the problem, having ammo left for the two steel targets to the left of it was. I had loaded just four rounds in the first magazine. The next one had seven and was used on any target still standing on the left and the eight standing to the right. One of those targets was actually two, a circle cut out target in front of a trapezoidal plate. Both had to go down. The third mag was loaded with 30 rounds. Only one shooter (not me) got all the plates before running out of ammo.

Later, we set up five plates on either side of the range with a stop plate in the middle. The first guy to get all five of his targets shot the stop plate and won. I did OK on that one. We had two mags loaded up for this and I used just one. The other gun was a friend's Reising with original 20 round mags. He had to go to the second mag and that took a lot of time.

We shot a few rifles too, but for a change no handguns.

It made for a nice Monday evening.

I forgot to mention that while we were almost packed up, standing around talking some wolves started howling. I guess they were inside a mile away from the range, possibly just a few hundred yards.

Although there are several packs in the Upper Peninsula, I'd never heard wolves howl before. It was interesting and really capped the range trip.
