I have a russian friend here in town. She has a friend visiting, also a female, and happens to be a major with the Russian police and one of their top firearms instructors.

Not only a major in their police, but seems to be a world class shooter. She has even co wrote a book on shooting (in russian).

Now, my oldest, 9 year old daughter, is a shooting fool. This nice Russian police woman agreed to give my kiddo some pointers. So, we're going to the range Monday for some shooting practice and pointers from the Russian view. This lady cannot speak english so my friend has been and will be translating.

I guess a 12 time Russian national champ can give my kiddo a few pointers, right? Since she outshot our top sniper at the department, I guess she is pretty good!

I'm going to let her shoot my Kimber .45 I carry for duty, and my Glock .40. Thinking about taking my Benelli shotgun and AR15 (and a few more toys). I just have a sick feeling she will really show me up in shooting ability in front of my kiddo (she's a 12 time champ!).

I will truly enjoy my daughter seeing a female outshoot several of us males out there. I am hoping kiddo will learn a lot from her. Not that I will feel very good being outshot by a female, but will sure boost kiddo's confidence.

If anyone is interested, I will post pics at the end of the day. She really is a nice lady. It is very obviouse though, she is not one to be crossed.

I'd show her a thing or two - bake up a nice batch of cookies to take along to the range ! That'll teach her ! LOL

Sorry ! Couldn't resist

Why is it so important the fact that she's a woman and shoots better than you?

Would you feel less not very well if you were outshot by Todd Jarrett or some other multi-champion man?

We're talking about a person with lots of experience, training and skill! Oh and just by pure chance, this person has boobs.

The way I look at it men and women don't compete at shooting, we share the experience. If a woman is better than me it's because God built them different, they have woman like skills (patience, less ego), or the simple fact that women all know Voodoo. :neener: Besides just hope some day your daughter can outshoot you, sure your ego may be bruised but wont that be worth the pride you'd feel.

If that's as rough as it gets for you today, you're a blessed man.

Please pass along any great advice you pick up.

How to save face

Get some fake blood, bandage hand, arm, and put into sling.
Bribe Kiddo to keep mouth shut.
Bribe Kiddo again to make sure she keeps mouth shut.
Bribe translator with large amounts of chocolate.

Practice holding sling out a bit for all to see.
Practice doing this while wincing.
Practice *whine* *cough* "I'm sick,/I'm hurt " *whine* *cough*

You are welcome. :)

Some people are born with natural abilities that lend themselves to excellence in certain pursuits. Some folks have the maturity, drive and discipline to develop their abilities and skills to a point far above average. Who better to give your child the benefit of her natural abilities, skill and discipline than a person like this woman? Lucky you, you get to tag along and try to pick up some pointers. And your daughter is a lucky kid, to have a dad who supports her and her chance to get exposure to world class talent in a hobby she enjoys.

Y'all have fun,

I'm sure the rules for safety are the same here as there, but just as a precaution (I'm paranoid) be sure to ask about what safety rules they use and point out the ones we use. As a guest shooter I would hope that my host would do this for me to be certain that we were operating on the same page.

As to why the OP has such enthusiasm for the fact that the Major is also a woman I can only use my experience as an example.

I have a 9 year old daughter. I'm always enthusiastic when a strong female role model is available to help counter all the drivel that girls are bombarded with to be an ornamental empty-headed consuming cog.

poor little, lost lamb, you could stub your toe, lose your wallet and wreck your car, and your monday will STILL be better than mine !!:neener:

If you haven't left yet, think stealth...

And wagering.

And a GOOD dinner somewhere, on someone else.

"So, you beat me - Betcha double or nothing you can't beat this little lady here! Heck, let's make it 10-1!"

Shooting with Champions.

I haven't checked your profile, but are you a peace officer by any chance?

It is a great privilege to shoot with any kind of champion shooter who agrees to talk about it, translator or not. In my limited experience shooting competiton, (High Master Highpower Rifle, distinguished rifle, Presidents 100 pistol, Texas State Highpower Champion, 2 Louisiana State Championships, 7 time NM team shooter, army marksmanship trainer) I find that police units, even the SWAT and Sniper shooters -are not up to civilian competitive standards. The BEST trained army folks are about where a beginning service rifle shooter starts.

Most folks would be thrilled to watch and especially shoot with any top level competitor. Wish I was going to be there. I'd keep my mouth shut and eyes and ears open! You can't BUY this kind of experience.

Don't worry about it, I spent my whole life being outshot by a woman (my mother). Now that she's wearing tri-focals I can almost keep up with her. It'll do your daughter good to see a woman shooter that doesn't buy into the "all women are little girlies" BS.

Hey all, I wasn't totally serious about being outshot by her. I knew she would as she is a 12 time champ after all. We had a great time! My kiddo and I picked up a few pointers as well. This lady shoots a rifle a little different than I was taught, you'll see her stance in the pic. It was scorching hot today and pretty windy, so it was a short day.

And so you know..... 6'2", blonde, blue eyes..... And has a Phd. Ok, to the pics!

My daughter with her 10/22 and Ella.

She really liked the AR, shot about 400 rounds. Notice the stance?

She also liked the Kimber .45. Unfortunately, I only had 1 box of ammo in the range bag. Take a look at the distance to the bowling pins on the ground. She did not miss! The platform was lined with bowling pins and poppers, one after the other.

And what's a day at the range without a 300 win mag??? She shot it 4 or 5 times, did not flinch, did not miss.

Anyway, those are a few pics. We had a great time, she is talking about returning next August. I'm already looking forward to shooting with her again. I need to find out the title of the book she co-wrote and get an english version.

Russians teaching young American girls how to shoot AR-15s... oh if we could only go back in time 20 years and show ourselves these photos during the Cold War days :D

From the Kimber pic... Easy to see why I was amazed and impressed. She really is an amazing shooter. Too bad kiddo and I don't understand Russian, or she does not understand English. Would have helped with kiddo's (and me) on her shooting tips. Sorta a long lag time with a translator when kiddo is holding her rifle and trying to learn.

Did she actually shoot that AR without shouldering the butt or is she just setting up for the shot.

I honestly love the russians, tough people

Agreed, Americans used to be tough, now they're mostly soft in the middle and lazy. It's sad.
