Disclaimer: I'm not trying to start any infighting. "Divided we fall." What I am trying to do is ask advice on which of these two to join right *now* if I had to make a choice. I'll eventually join both. By the way, I did do a search first and couldn't find much.

Gun Owners of America
* $20 minimum member dues.
* I like where GOA stands philosophically.
* I like that Ron Paul endorsed them.
* Not sure about their history of important court cases?
* Wikipedia says 300,000+ members.

Second Amendment Foundation
* $15 member dues
* I see a significant history of involvement in huge court cases, including the current SCOTUS one McDonald v. Chicago.
* I like that Massad Ayoob is on the executive committee of the Board right now.
* Wikipedia says 650,000+ members.

Just wanted you guys' opinion. Have a nice day.

I'm not a member of either, but I'd choose SAF.

They back Alan Gura & Co. with $$$. Alan Gura won Heller and is working on McDonald (which I think he will win, maybe even on the P&I clause) and Palmer v DC (the right to "bear" arms, to force ccw or open carry in DC and thus in all 50 states).

I think their strategy of carefully crafted lawsuits with very smart lawyers behind them has potential to succeed very well and roll back years of gun control. They need every penny to fund lawsuits that work their way all the way to the SCOTUS.

I used to be a member of both, but now only support SAF.

About all I ever saw from GOA was a bunch of breathlessly overheated rhetoric. They also seemed too ready to publicly assail and condemn other organizations that didn't fully subscribe to their give-no-ground hard line stance. IMHO, GOA isn't very effective and may actually be hurting our cause.

You don't say what state you're in, but if you have a state based organization (like VCDL here in Virginia) I'd go that route first.

(OK...edited to add that I see in your signature that you already have.... advice stands for others).

org

I am supprised your actually not for GOA.so many are pounding the drums for GOA.
I dont belong to SAF but subscribe to THE NEW GUNWEEK their newspaper.so I do contribute.
and thank you for posting the membership numbers.so its 4 mil for NRA and 650,000 for SAF and then the other 350,000.the way they blow their horn I thought they had far more.

Well, we have one organization that is bringing suit and paying Alan Gura as its attorney, to establish 2nd Amendment case law in our favor.

And we have another that sends scary letters and asks for money.

This decision is VERY EASY.

(You may well like where I stand philosophically, too, but would you send ME a check for $20? Has GOA done more for gun rights than I have?:D)

All Gun Organizations are not created equal.

Yosemite, if you join GOA, and then fill out the application for SAF and mail it to me, I'll add the $15 M.O. and get you signed up for both, as I am. But also consider this Monday Bulletin from JPFO. As yet, no e-mail or any other comms from NRA ar the other of the 'big three'. Consider this::

JPFO ALERT: FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS AND
BATFE KNOW WHERE TO FIND YOUR GUNS !

"If you read last week's alert about the national gun registry BATFE
is creating - Did you really think it would never happen? - then you will be extremely interested in the comments in this article - eTrace: Internet-based Firearms Tracing and Analysis - by the Hillary Clinton State Department. Over thirty foreign governments and thousands of police agencies can access the BATFE registration records to find firearms owned by Americans under the guise of tracing "crime guns".

The same data base could be useful to an anti-gun administration who asks for assistance from a foreign government to confiscate your guns. The potential for misuse of the BATFE database cannot be underestimated.

We are receiving information from those in the firearm industry confirming that BATFE agents are removing 4473 firearm sales forms from stores and holding them until they have completed copying all data from the forms.

If you aren't on board with JPFO to abolish BATFE then don't complain when you get your door bashed down in the name of "public safety". Discover more about BATFE - THE GANG: How A Government Agency Uses The Law To Destroy Your Rights And Freedoms and learn about the use of Nazi "Gun Control" laws to write America's Gun Laws. Go also to "Gun Control": Gateway to Tyranny - "Gun Control": Gateway to Tyranny."

TIME TO DIG 'EM UP, OR SALVAGE THEM FROM LAKE MICHIGAN. We have them surrounded, infiltrated and out-numbered; ATTACK them with TRUTH ! !

I feel like I have been suckered by GOA (which pains me to say because I am a life member). I stopped giving funds to GOA and should start giving them to SAF instead (in addition to what I already donate to NRA).

You can sign up for RSS feeds from NRA-ILA and be up on things hourly if you wish. And you can "preview" the information to see if you would like to read more, instead of having your inbox hammered all the time.

Thanks Mongo.

This is the first I've heard that this could be done. I appreciate it.

GOA seems a bit "out there". SAF would be the better choice. NRA would be the best choice if you are not already a member.
