Looks good painted. Either of I get a hunter or a Montana I think I would up the same scope on. How's the recoil and feel in the hand with the 3.5-10 on.

The recoil is a bit much, but I have the 175s loaded to almost Max. It's just a really light gun honestly. Generally I don't like heavy recoiling rifles so maybe I'm being a wimp. Im embarrassed to say I excited when a buck unexpectedly crossed in front of me at about 20 yards this October and got cracked in the nose when the rifle slipped off my big winter coat below my armpit. I still have a divot where the scope connected. Haha.

but did you get the buck?

Thanks, all. You have helped me process. I think I may pass on the Montana. I'm in no rush, and there are other options. I see that the Model 70 Super Grade is available in 280 Rem. I might talk to my smith about setting the barrel back and re-chambering in 280 AI, although that would only be a 1:10 twist. Maybe rebarrel an Extreme Weather SS. In the meantime, I'll see if I can get hands on with a Bergara or Kimber.

Changing the color of a SS barrel is a good idea. If I had a rifle with a white barrel you could see a blur of the long steps as I was taking it to get a coat of matt black ceracote. Where I hunt the deer are really wild and the flash of binoculars, a large objective lense or a white rifle could cost me a shot at a big mature buck. If a doe picks up on anything strange the bucks will hang back.
