Could someone tell me why putting on a Monte Carlo stock (w/ R3 recoil pad) on a Remy 870 Police magnum would be a bad idea?

The LOP on this stock is 1-inch shorter than normal.

A monte carlo stock is useful in trap and when having rifle sights mounted on shotguns for slugs and police model guns.

If the gun has rifle type sights, it might not be a bad idea at all- the slightly higher comb would be a help to some folks. But some folks get along without it, it's a matter of individual fit, like so much else with shotguns. Bottom line, if it helps you get on target, go for it-

I'm with Lee, a position I find myself in frequently. I use MC stocks on my two main target 870s and they'd work if I scoped an 870 also. Try one and E bay it if it doesn't help.

Brakeless, Boyd's has thumbhole stocks for the 870. Two trapshooters I know seem satisfied with them....

My 870Mk1 has the rifle sights that sit pretty high on the barrel...

So I put the Monte Carlo buttstock on it. I don't regret it, as the gun comes up the eye/sight alignment is wonderful!

No Brakes, by happy coincidence I shot a couple rounds with one of the guys I know with a Boyd's Thumbhole stock on his 870. Tried a pair of trap shots and ground both clays into dust. It felt a little funny but worked OK.

The owner says it reduces kick a bit. Entirely subjective....

Thanks for the info, Dave.

I might look into getting a Boyd's. I probably won't be getting a Monte Carlo, however. I just put my 870 in my shoulder, and the SPS barrels sights line up perfectly with the OEM stock and a neoprene sidesaddle. Any higher and it wouldn't be perfect.

If I ever get one of those Mesa Tactical AR kits and put optics on it, things might change, but the more I read about it, and the more I handle mine, the more I realize I want to save the mall-ninja stuff for a fun "project" gun, and not the HD one.

A PG/stock or thumbhole would be easier on the wrist, though.
