I've had a pretty good month as far as knives go in my book. I've tried 3 new things that I've had no experience with what so ever. 1. an opinel 2. a Mora and 3. a wicked edge. I'm getting better with the wicked edge, my first couple of knives weren't so wicked, but I'm getting there. I am also extremely impressed with the mora and the opinel. Both knives got to shaving arm hair sharp with very little effort. I think the mora is a little better quality, but I'm not complaining about a 8 dollar opinel either. Anyway, It's been interesting. I finally dumped the money on the wicked edge, and have basically decided it was one of the most worth while purchases insofar as knives are concerned. I'm also disappointed that I waited so long to spend 20 bucks to get a mora and a opinel. I could have been messing around with a much better quality of knife and paid in cash years ago compared to what I was messing with. Anyway, Merry Christmas. Hope you all have a good New Year.

Well I started trying to make my own knives but quickly became frustrated with sharpening knives little lone making the because I would spend an hour on a knife and still have less than acceptable results, spent about 200 dollars on sharpeners that I didn't like and finally decided that the money might as well go to the wicked edge before I spent another 200 on 5 more sharpeners that would just make me more frustrated. Now that I'm sufficiently confident I can sharpen a knife I'll get back to trying to make one.

Remember it takes a little while for the stones on the WE to break in, then you'll get some great results.

I actually think I've got the stones working well. It's actually the strops I'm fighting with. Probably user induced error.

I got bamboo strops by accident (ordered leather) and some diamond paste and am really impressed by the results. I have stones up to 4000 grit and after stropping you can read off of the edges.

Just keep practicing, and try not to cut up the strops. That's the hard part for me!

I still had Wedge and Dredge left, Gold Leader.

Also, wholly and entirely unrelated to this post, did you know the guy that played Wedge is Ewan McGregors uncle in real life?
