More anti gun drivel

yeah the rest of the petition site is awful. It really hurt my brain seeing all the "save the innocent furry beasties!" garbage, yes I am all for the conservation of wildlife and retaining wilderness, but come on, just because it is legal to eradicate problem animals from the air doesn't mean it's a practice that happens constantly and unrestricted, like they are claiming.

and besides they need to ****!

For those that missed the nice comments from the "enlightened one" ,here's a few choice ones

What is going on in this country for someone to think it a good idea to kill another being to raise funds for a MUSIC field trip. No wonder there are so many school shootings. People who have no problems harming animals have no problems harming humans later on in life. What a great school system to get the ball rolling!

Teaching kids to disrespect life is tragic. Why can't we just leave the animals alone and find productive and positive things to teach our kids?

And my favorite . (emphasis mine)
The very fact that the school board members see nothing wrong with this raffle is a testament to their lack of values and shallow moral character. Are they all hunters at Noble High School? Do they really think its ok to teach others its a good thing to hunt down a bear to pay for a trip to NY that the kids' parents should be paying for? Is this a poor school district in Maine where hunting is a daily thing? Its a shame that school districts like this exist, what will it do to the future of all those kids who graduate or don't graduate from Noble? Where is the pride and self-respect of earning money by multiple fundraising activities and going out and working hard for that money for a trip you want to take? A bear hunt raffle does not belong in the school. Nothing associated with guns belongs in any school. Do we need more school shootings? Teach your kids that hunting down an innocent animal by baiting him with jelly donuts is wrong. Are they all poorly educated in the Noble school district?

Apparently this last fellow failed to realize that hunters safety courses have been taught throughout Maine schools for as long as I can remember . Matter of fact , that's where I took my course and we even had a field trip to the local range to shoot , on school time :D
Btw , hunting IS a daily thing here in Maine , as the seasons allow . This guy apparently lives in another Maine .

I just signed Erebus. I think some of you will get a kick out of my comments:

Human beings have hunted for food for well over a millennium. It is the natural order of life and no more cruel than animals killing other animals for nourishment. Everyone was not always able to ride their pollution-free Segway down to the local Whole Foods and buy some tofu 100 years ago you know. Guns are inanimate objects and it's irrational to fear them, let alone fear your kids being around them (in a responsible manner of course). Knowledge is always better than a lack thereof. Go back to wearing your tye-dyed shirts and eating tofu. Leave the decisions on hunting and firearms to those that have a clue. That is all.

:D

Just signed the petition. I also suggest anyone that can buy a ticket to help their cause and show them that most of America is OK with it.

On another note I copied all the board members addresses form the anti-petition, these are the people the antis are emailing. Here they are in case anyone wants to send a support email.

[email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]

just sent them an e-mail! thanks jerkin!

I just wanted to drop you all a line in support of the raffling of the hunting trip, I couldn't believe the drivel that the group against it was putting out. I find it disgusting and foul that they would attempt to use school shootings as an emotional attack on hunting, and that they would try to connect selling a hunting trip to finance a school trip with teaching the students to shoot each other. I also find the amount of bias the author seems to have against firearms and hunting in regards to enthusiasts education levels and inherent worth as human beings sickening.

You are doing the right thing and don't let some moonbat make you think otherwise. get those kids to NYC!

the first response is in!
Thank you.

Just a heads up on the email addresses I posted. Already received 2 responses thanking me for the support. From what one of the guys said there are more people who support it than those that oppose it.

If anyone is a member of other boards that allow cross posting they should put this up and help these kids really sell some tickets. It would make a pretty big statement. The tickets are only $10 and if you're not interested in the hunt there is an alternative prize of $1000.

WELCOME TO MAINE, you've seen it, now go home. We don't need your kind 'round here!!! Disgusting liberal drivel.

Do we want to teach our young people to achieve their aspirations through hard work so that they value their own achievements or do we want to teach them to use guns and the exploitation of animals?

That makes no sense, the two are so remote its painful to make the leap of liberal on that one.

You have to go to college to be able to say something that stupid.

From the critter barn-

Thanks, but because I referred to other board members, I'd best not post that w/o their permission... I've revised and added a bit below for you if you would like to post it...

Your sentiment is much appreciated... I missed the first half hour of the meeting and passed all the anti-hunters on their way out the door... I hear that their behavior became rude and was directly insulting to others in attendance. I have been on the receiving end of that sort of thing for using our horses to give carriage rides. There is little rational behavior involved in some of these conversations which makes it very difficult to address. The reporter for the local newspaper who originally printed the story about the protest even apologized to me for not fairly representing the facts regarding this raffle. We live in the State of Maine where hunting is not only a long standing tradition often shared by generations of families, but it is also a legal activity that brings in many dollars used by many people and many services in the state. In addition, the gentleman who donated this package is a certified Maine guide and a police officer who has dedicated a large part of his life to working with young people. There is no part of this activity that can be construed as irresponsible gun use. Again, I thank you for sending us your supportive comments. Personally I have received far more supportive emails and comments from folks then from those accusing us of promoting irresponsible gun use in children and torturing animals. Further, I think their having drawn so much attention to the matter seems to be selling more tickets.

I'm with the bear on this one. The students' trip to NYC is not as important as a living being's right to stay living.

I don't understand those of you who say things like, "Well, bears are mean, so people who cling to the cuddly factor are silly." (Obviously paraphrasing, but that's the general idea which I was able to extract from many comments.) So a bear matters less than, say, a known child molester released from prison? Drivel. Animals do less harm to the world than people do. I don't understand people who devalue animals. Who the hell are we to say whether it's okay or not to go about killing them?

The bear hunters had better eat the meat. There is little else in this world that matches the repugnance of an animal killed merely for its hide. Or for the sake of a trip that these highschoolers likely won't even appreciate.

Our society grossly disrespects the sanctity of life.

You're quoting G. K. Chesterton!!!

Fairy tales don't teach children that monsters exist.
Children already know that monsters exist.
Fairy tales teach children that monsters can be killed.

You're quoting G. K. Chesterton?

Yer allright there Patrick! All right indeed!:)

"Sounds like some of the former California fruits have found their way to Maine to me ."

Nope, Massachusetts. How much clout is this petition going to have, when 80% of the signatures are from France, UK, Austrailia, Serbia/Montenegro, France, the Moons of Nebia, France, etc.?

Dollars to donuts that hunting trip raffle item will raise more money than a pan of tofu brownies. Wish there was a link to the raffle. I would buy a ticket just for the charity and spite. Dollars talk.

I wonder how they feel about inhumane partices of the commerial fishing industry?

Then again, fish are not cuddly nor are crustations...

He didn't stumble into the wrong webiste... it is very possible to be a gun lover and not a hunter. And vice versa.

There's some animals I won't hunt, based solely on the cuteness factor. Squirrels are one. (Don't know why I love those bushy-tailed rats...)

Bears ain't one of them, but still, I see where he's coming from.

Here ya go www.noblehighmusic.com The tickets are $10, if you use paypal they will mail you a ticket the total is $11.05. The bear hunt looks great, 6 days for 2 people. everything included except transportation and a license. Lobster bake one night, steak another, mmmmmm. $1000 prize if you don't want the hunt.

Wrong website? You mean, this isn't Schwarzeneggar Central? :p

I must admit, I love guns but not hunting. So you've got me there.

So nice to have my name lauded for its poetical beauty. :)

I accept there is nothing to be done about the situation, so may the bear die swiftly and as painlessly as possible, and may the students enjoy their trip.

And may we all remember that without our Earth, we'd be dead: Hence, the sanctity of all life should never be dismissed or forgotten.

Hence, the sanctity of all life should never be dismissed or forgotten.

Another way of thinking about this that might be helpful would be the more accurate 'circle of life'. I understand your desire to show respect, but without death, and a lot of it, none of us would be here. Even if the hunters shoot the bear and leave it, it's death will help all the critters that depend on such things for their existence. From buzzards down to bacteria, nothing will be wasted.

You want waste, stick a dead critter in a sealed metal box and then put that in a concrete container.

Without the rape of countless women in times past, probably quite a few of us would not be here, either.

Does that excuse the pointless act of violence?

That is merely the point I was trying to make.

That is disgusting! How many people had to die for that money? How many hours of slave labor were put into the earning of it. It sickens me to think that all of societies problems come from greed and selfishness, and here someone is just offering up a big wad of cash in a raffle for high schoolers of all people! Children don't have jobs, hence they don't have money. We should keep everything money related out of our schools, it has no place. This can only lead to more shopping sprees putting the financial lives of our children at risk.
