Washington, D.C. – A political consultant who
serves as a senior advisor to presumptive
Republican presidential nominee John McCain
apparently oversaw a lobbying operation that
hired a mole to infiltrate and spy on progressive opposition groups.

James Jay Baker, a longtime Republican political
operative, served as executive director of the
National Rifle Association’s Institute for
Legislative Action (ILA) in the late 1990s and is
still registered as a lobbyist for the NRA.

According to investigative journalism magazine
Mother Jones, Baker’s deputy director at the ILA,
Patrick O’Malley, supervised consultant Mary Lou
Sapone, also known as Mary McFate.

Beginning in 1998, Sapone infiltrated the gun
violence prevention movement and remained active
in the movement until just over two weeks ago,
when the magazine broke the story of her role as an NRA mole.

The National Rifle Association has refused to
comment on the Sapone story since it broke.

“Senator McCain describes himself as a ‘straight
talker’ and a critic of the Washington lobbying
establishment,” said Paul Helmke, President of
the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun
Violence. “Senator McCain and his campaign need
to answer whether or not they approve of this
spying on victims, and whether they will ask Mr.
Baker and the NRA to explain the extent of their
involvement in these activities.”

"Progressive opposition groups?" Is that like the Progressive Party that was a front for the Marxists early in the last century?

And Mother Jones is an "investigative journalism magazine?" Last time I looked, it was for people who were too stoned to read regular newspapers.

"progressive" is another word for liberal.

“Senator McCain and his campaign need
to answer whether or not they approve of this
spying on victims, and whether they will ask Mr.
Baker and the NRA to explain the extent of their
involvement in these activities.”

Why. Why does anybody need to answer or explain anything. Was some law broken? I doubt it.
"spying on victims"??? victims of what?
Silence is probably the best response but the finger-next-to-the-trigger finger would be tempting.

Acutually asking rather or not they approve is a very good question... It will give you a good idea of thier morals( assuming its a truthful answer... which I would not expect)

I don't expect a truthful answer from any one in washington... Asking some one rather or not they approve of "spying" going on between lobbying groups. Is a very good question, one that would give you insite on what thier morals are.

Beginning in 1998, Sapone infiltrated the gun
violence prevention movement
Funny, "infiltration" is usually only applied to shadowy organizations that deliberately pursue illegal/immoral activities.

In contrast, _anyone_ is welcome to join & observe pro-gun group activities - no "infiltration" required.

Until Jake Tapper is regarded by ABC as a biased source and prevented from reporting on gun-related news stories, I'll disregard McCain staffmembers being NRA lobbyists. ;)

When organizations engage in the sole purpose of destroying a civil right of all americans to bear arms for their own personal protection and against tyranny, do you really expect people to not engage in forms of infiltration to disrupt and destroy you from within?

"progressive" is another word for liberal.
No, "progressive" is a euphemism for "That Hugo Chavez isn't such a bad guy!" They're the ones who'll tell you the Soviet Union "won" WWII without mentioning that they helped START it by supplying Hitler and invading Poland.

They are to real liberals what NAMBLA is to homosexuals who prefer consenting ADULTS. They try to pass themselves off as something they're not because what they really are is revolting to the vast majority of people.

And if the Brady Bunch "infiltrated" the NRA it would be called "Investigative journalism" or some such BS I don't see wherer any laws were broken.

Am I supposed to be upset?

Would they have me believe that they don't do or try to do the same thing?

And I think the word we might be looking for is not progressive, certainly not liberal, but perhaps leftist.
