Was looking at ammo sales online and a random thought hit me. I've heard of guys shooting 32 S&W or 32 S&W long (can't remember which) out of nagant revolvers due to ammo cost and availability. If that is truly safe would that then mean that a guy could shoot 7.62 nagant ammo out of a 327 revolver without exceeding pressures limits? I'm seeing the OAL of nagant ammo is .06" longer than 327 and after the brass is fired I have no idea how long the brass stretches. Would that be enough to bind a cylinder? This isn't a question of why, just if it is possible.

For a while, sellers of the NAGANT revolvers were offering extra cylinders to shoot .32 ammo. If that is what you heard about, then absolutely do not try shooting .32 S&W in the NAGANT cylinder. As mentioned earlier, the cases are not just different lengths, but diameters. Even with a mild round like the .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long, the cases might split.

I can't remember clearly. I had a Nagant revolver for a little while, and I have a perhaps false memory that it shot 32 S&W long or 32acp okay.

Someone more knowledgeable can perhaps correct me on this.

I had one. It would shoot .32 long fine but it split lead horribly. When i had mine, nagant ammo was tough to find. I carried it on the trail a few times, but its gone down the road.

Personally I see no reason to shoot expensive anemic ammo out of a gun designed to shoot expensive hot ammo. I'd stick with the .32 family. .327, .32 long, sort, and acp (if the gun will chamber it)

The base diameter of 7.62x38R is .352, same measurement in .32S&W is .337 -won't fit. This is also why .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long often split in Nagant revolvers.

.32 ACP requires the conversion cylinder. IIRC, the conversion cylinders were only chambered .32 ACP.

Did not know about the bases being different diameters. Just a thought exercise on my part, never would go out of my way to get nagant ammo to put in my 327 but curious none the less.
