OL: Do you think firearms manufacturers should be responsible for the criminal misuse of their products?

Kerry: In cases where firearms are criminally misused, the blame should be placed on the person perpetrating the crime. However, in the few cases where it is clear that a gun dealer is consistently selling guns to criminals, gun manufacturers should exercise common sense and stop supplying those dealers. For example, 1.2 percent of licensed gun dealers supply 57 percent of the firearms recovered from criminals. In such cases, if a gun manufacturer knows that this dealer is supplying criminals and yet continues to sell guns to the dealer, then it is fair to hold the manufacturer accountable for this behavior, which is endangering public safety.

Now now in heck is the manufacturer or distribitor supposed to know who a dealer is selling to? :scrutiny:
The federal government under the guise of the BATF issues the Federal Firearms Licenses. Therefore it would be the responsibility of the BATF to monitor the dealers. It is NOT the responsibility of the manufacturers/distributors.

As long as the dealer has a current and valid FFL the only concern of the seller should be payment and shipping issues.

I think Kerry must have a NOX leak in his whipped cream machine.

goop posting!!

Firearms manufacturers selling weapons to FFL holders is their fault? Maybe if they didn't have an FFL we wouldn't have this problem and kerry could go and put his head were it clearly belongs.

To make them really look stupid just keep expanding their train of thought. Why stop with the gun manufactor? The steel and polymer industry sold the gun manufactor the materials needed to build the guns. Let's blame them. Wait a minute, the raw materials the steel and polymer industry used was extracted from the earth by miners and gas/oil rigs so we can blame them. Just one more second, God placed the natural elements that are used in the earth.
So do ol' John Boy blames God?????

I don't think it is fuzzy logic on his or anyone's part that doesn't realize how the gun biz works. Of course a manufacturer should be held somewhat responsible if they are knowingly selling guns to distributors who are selling to dealers. 99.999999999% of the time though, manufacturers have no idea who a dealer is selling to.

What sKerry and others do not realize as flawed in their thought process is the middle-man distributor. Same goes for the distributor but I'd bet they don't know who the dealer is selling to either.

Why not hold the dealer, and the dealer alone, responsible if he/she is knowingly selling to nefarious types? Seems reasonble to me. Oh, wait, there ain't no money in that. THAT'S what we are really talking about here, isn't it? Who's going to pay the $$$ to the victims families and line the lawyer's pockets?

Greg

Kerry's just saying that he supports legislation to give gun manufacturers immunity from frivilous lawsuits, but that he opposes legislation that would give gun manufacturers immunity from frivilous lawsuits.

His statement should be clear to anyone.

BTW, it's great to see you back on THR, BluesBear. Are the doc's now allowing you to use your computer, or are you sneaking around behind their backs? ;)
