i took the carbine out today to some more function checks on it, and to clarify what exactly is causing the problems w/ it. was using new winchester ball ammo and one of the 15 round mags and a new 30-round mag (great western, i think, is the mfgr).
it seemed to cycle fine, ejecting and feeding fine. the only problem it seemed to have was stripping the first cartridge off the mag. sometimes, when i released the bolt, it would only get the first round partway off the mag. other times, it would get the first round out of the mag, and get the cartridge mostly chambered, but the bolt wouldn't slam home. if i forced the bolt home, then it would run like a champ. the problem was in just getting the first round off (or the first round from a mag that had a couple fired, then pulled the mag, opened the bolt, insert mag, and try...).
seems the cartridge head won't go into the bolt on the first round (unless it is forced).
any help?
