Senator, Iraq Is No Vietnam

"It was Kennedy's older brother, John F. Kennedy, who dragged the United States into the Vietnam quagmire, and the senator should know better than to compare Vietnam and Iraq."

"Just like the Russians in Grozny, the Marines last week were supported by tanks and attack helicopters, but the end result was entirely different. U.S. forces did not bomb the city indiscriminately. The Iraqis fought well but were massacred. According to the latest body count, some 600 Iraqis died and another 1,000 were wounded. The Marines lost some 20 men."

U.S. Journalist Inflate Battlefield Death Count

Great post..

Interesting... I was about to post that this guys numbers were wrong, but then I realized that the US PRESS publishes total deaths in Iraq over six-hundred, INCLUDING ACCIDENTAL AND NATURAL CAUSES, whereas this journalist quoted five-hundred deaths which is about right, maybe a bit overestimated, for deaths by enemy action. How is that for subtle propaganda? ( Vietnam numbers were a bit ballparkish.. )

Someone finally noticed the discrepancy in the numbers between Viet Nam and Iraq. On the other hand, it only took a handful of losses in Somalia for us to go find a hole to hide in. With our heightened sensitivity Iraq can look like Viet Nam in comparison to Somalia. On the third hand, Somalia was a UN action, no?

Not to hijack the thread, but after Kennedy's remarks about Viet Nam I sent him a message; "Bush's Viet Nam or Chappaquiddick? Sober up."

Now wish I'd mentioned his family's involvement in three great fiascos; Viet Nam, Chappaquiddick and Bay of Pigs. When criticism is due, there are others that live on a higher moral ground that should be doing the critisizing, not him.
