Marines in Fallujah trade 'culturally sensitive' training for bullets

Thanks Sean.

I guess I misunderstood; its more of a tactics thing than anything, eh?

Whatever it takes to do the job.... :)

That AP stuff has a seriously alarmist/defeatist tone to it that dosen't seem to mesh so well with the facts in it. Basically the story is that the Marines were well prepared to interact peacefully with normal Iraqis, but instead were attacked by insurgents. They would rather have done the peaceful thing, but given the way it worked out, they're killing their attackers, and they're not particularly put out about it. Also, Iraqi snipers are crap. So why the "Oh my god, sky is falling, it wasn't supposed to BE this way!" line from our AP reporter? It's banging on the "election year, Iraqi quagmire" drum, I guess? If it were all going to be dancing and picking flowers, the Marines wouldn't have been sent in the first place, we would have just sent a Hallmark card with $20 in it instead, right?

The only reason to be 'culturally sensitive' to your enemy is so that you can move in close and kill him. Tactically, the employment of 'cultural sensitivity' also gives the feel-good left what they want.

It's a "win-win":D

story about bob's brother charlie

Hope this isn't overly OT for a first post.

A marine firebase in Vietnam was having a problem with a sniper. He would wait until a helicopter came in and shoot at soldiers getting on/off. The hill where he was hiding was a fair hike away and in not so friendly territory, in addition he was well camoflauged. So, out comes the 106mm recoilles rifle. No sniper problem. At least for a week or so, apparently another sniper has taken the previous fellers place and has started shooting again. So, again, out come the 106, buh bye. Well, another week of rest until another sniper shows up. But this time, they must have sent an amateur, he can't shoot. Compared to the near dozen marines that were killed by the last two, this guy hasn't even hit one. It was a base joke, soldiers would leave dummies out allowing him to practice, they'd wave and other good ribbing. Well, the Colonel brings out the 106 again when a Private runs up to him, Sir, if you kill him they will surely send another sniper, probably a better one. Perhaps it would be better if we just let him be? So, the colonel left him be, and told the soldiers to stop teasing the poor guy. A few even started faking hits, they'd see some dirt thrown up and keel over, you know, to keep his spirits up.

Bad shot, smart sniper, good story anyway. I'm sure a few of the Marines in Fallujah will be telling this one.

Anyway, hello High Roaders! :)
