I think I would stick with the barrel at the 44 length. Use an optic of choice in a "scout" mount. I would definetly install the muzzle break. Hell, if the hog get too close flip out the bayonette and have an adventure.
BTW...Here's a few pix of the completed rifle project (the 22" barrel rifle as opposed to the 19" carbine gun under construction). Accurate shooter, and a real pussycat on recoil.
Just like the 22", I'll use Birchwood Casey superblue on the carbine...If done right, the finish is quite good and durable, and I store my guns in gunsocks in a dry safe, and there has been no corrosion problems.
