I think I would stick with the barrel at the 44 length. Use an optic of choice in a "scout" mount. I would definetly install the muzzle break. Hell, if the hog get too close flip out the bayonette and have an adventure.;)

"I don't know why Santa Fe removed the factory #4 rear sight. It would give a longer sight radius (good)."

That rifle wasn't a sporterized No.4 Lee Enfield, but rather a No.1 Mk.3 SMLE which would have originally had a barrel mounted rear sight.

OK, Dr.Rob and Thunder Chief, I have posted some pix of the full-stock project in the gunsmithing forum if you wanna see 'em...

BTW...Here's a few pix of the completed rifle project (the 22" barrel rifle as opposed to the 19" carbine gun under construction). Accurate shooter, and a real pussycat on recoil.

I like the 22 and look forward to seeing the 19incher. Are you going to leave the barrel in the white or re-blue it?

Just like the 22", I'll use Birchwood Casey superblue on the carbine...If done right, the finish is quite good and durable, and I store my guns in gunsocks in a dry safe, and there has been no corrosion problems.
