Too much trouble to slip a straw over the front post ?

The whole endeavor took about a minute and once done I had a solid, rigid front sight that was higher yet unbendable even at the very top that was easier to see, especially in low light, than the original plain front post.

If anyone wants to gets rid of the front post on their mosin please let me know. I might be able to mojo my front sight with it on my 6.5 Carcano so it don't shoot a foot high at a 110 yards. Blade sight so straw will not work.

It's much easier to get a high front sight post or mojos. And you can do either with no permanent mods. For example I bought one of these Polish M44's for $150 a few decades ago. Now look at what the price is doing:

no it is not . much cheaper to file rear site base. unless you are 18 you will not see any major rise in price and cheap collectors will not pay anyway I don't care how much it goes up

Just strip a bit of wire of the correct gauge, and use the sheath to slide over the front post. Start long and trim it to the height that works with the ammo you are using. No need to file anything and no need to modify the rifle.

Besides, why file when you can stick a higher post in the front or pop on a Mojo?
One reason is it limits your sight picture through the front sight. If it was an open sight it wouldn't matter. I've been waiting for someone to make a M14 wing style front sight for these things.

Get a red "spray" straw from a WD40 can and cut a section longer than the factory post. You have plenty of free material to adj your setting. As far as those who say Mosins aren't collectable. Tell me why M44s, M38s, M91/59s and any of the Finn Mosins I bought 10-15 years ago for under 100 bucks are now selling for 2,3,4, 500+ bucks these days.

Hi Carbine85,

I can make (and have made) Mosin sights more "open" by modifying them to look like AK-47 sights -- an open top, you know. I wish you'd asked; I could have saved you some work!

There's a reason I say my sights are custom! :)

Regards,

Josh

Because I wrote that "most Mosins" aren't collectible. That means the majority of all Mosin rifles.
