hi I have a few questions i could not find answers to by my self.

#1. there is a company called brass stacker who makes a handle for a Mosin Nagant m91/30 bayonet, so i was curious if it would be legal to carry thing like this.

#2. what does it classify as, a knife? or something els entirely

#3. must i have a concealed weapons license in order to carry it with me on the street in a back pack or at my side in the woods?

also i thought in a pinch it would be a interesting mashup of lethal and less than lethal in a defensive situation, and would that be legal?

You need to research your local and state laws, as the answers to your questions will depend on where you live. Some municipalities have ordinances that are more restrictive than state laws. Just a guess, but I think a modified bayonet would be classified the same as knife of equal length. For your #3 question, see the first sentence in this post. There are much better options for self defense than a knife. I'm an old guy and carry a heavy cane. Pepper spray is also an option, but again you need to check local restrictions.

so i was curious if it would be legal...

Since knife laws are more fractious than gun laws you ALWAYS have to state what city and state you're concerned about before anyone can provide accurate advice.

Any spike bayonet will classify as a dirk/dagger/knife suitable for stabbing. ANY conversion to make it more suitable for carry than a bayonet will most certainly fall in that category. If your local laws make it illegal to carry a knife suitable for stabbing then you'll be breaking the law. There won't be much to debate about it either since a spike bayonet has no other purpose.

There's nothing "less lethal" about any spike bayonet.

I think if you need to carry a knife, you need a real knife.

If you need to carry a Russian spike bayonet??

Real aluminum tent stakes are much lighter, just as useful, & legal everywhere.

Odd Bodkin.....

At one point I considered buying some spike bayonets to put hilts upon, build a hard sheath for and sell at renfairs and SF&F conventions as bodkins. Then I got to thinking about some of the folks I have run into at those things and decided I did not want to be remotely responsible for pin cushioned costumers.

Carrying a screwdriver is probably classified as carrying a burglary tool, but carrying any stabbing implement will get you in trouble in Michigan.

Is carry of a screwdriver also forbidden? They are very similar.
If carried for the purpose of using it as a weapon, then yes. If carried on the job, as say an electrician or a mechanic, then no.

Many everyday items cross into the realm of illegal when used outside of their intended purpose.
