Mosin Nagant 91/30 PEM

Hi guys, just went to the gunshow today and saw many,many rifles, too much to choose from. Still awaitng my ticket as it has been delayed to my annoyance as I was hoping to bring home the K98 which due to the above I cant.
Judging on what I saw today k98 wise I am happy with the one I picked out last week.
I saw 1903 Springfields,Lee Enf's galore, some Mausers.

Anyway, my mission today was to pick out a Mosin Nagant Scoped rifle, at the show there were a few of them, all made up as a snipers not original snipers. I found many SA Finnish marked 91/30's with the common Repro PU scopes all marked at 450 - 600 quid.
There was one that stood out and this was a TULA 1925 91/30 the wood did not have that shiney look,the wood was dark brown and was not Beech or laminate this gun seemed lighter than the others, so maybe you guys might shine some light on what wood it could be. It has neat metal trims around the holes where the sling goes into.
The scope and mount did not come with the gun, the mount had a serial number on it that did not match the gun, the scope was a PEM Scope.
I have yet again decided to go for bore, this bore like my K98 outstood the others, because I had already gotten a K98 off this guy he knocked some money off the nagant.

Is this nagant known as an ex-dragoon ?

I know that this rifle is a made up sniper (all I have seen are) I will get some picks up asap, any info, or advice is apreciated.

Sounds like that's a M91, not a M91/30. Tula made the M91 from 1891 to 1926. It then started the "prototype" M91/30s in 1927 and officially started M91/30s in 1930.*

The best way to determine if it's a M91 or a Dragoon is to measure it's length. The M91 is 51.25 inches (130.1cm) long, and the Dragoons are 48.75 inches (123.8cm).*

I'm all for grabbing it!

thanks mate, it does have the "Sling slots with screwed in place escutcheons" also do you any idea on what the wood could be ?

I was there all weekend for the Trafalgar meeting. You do know there's a classic arms fair there next weekend don't you? I'll be at Bisley but running a range most of the weekend - hopefully I'll find time for a look around the fair.

If the rifle hasn't been refurbished then the wood should be Birch*.

If it's been refurbished, the stock could have been replaced. It'll be difficult to determine what type of wood it's wearing.

Here are some symbols to determine if the rifle has been refurbished (either stock or metal)**:


I'd probably go with birch until disproved, but that's me.

thanks Phill , ill let you know mate, as for the picts,those are on the way, I have in fact made a small error with the year, the year on the rec is Tula 1929 not 1925 (my eyes are bad!)makes no difference to me, as I am happy with the pem setup anyways !

Yeah, I was all set to go for a PU because I thought that PE/ PEMS did not come around alot, but as soon as I saw a pe , then a PEM, i discarded the PU idea and went for the PEM.

Ok so, until I gte the pics I cant really ask much or give much, but the date on the rec is 1929 with the star and arrow, now I am correct in saying that this is a M91 not a M91/30 ?
