just got a new to me mosin-nagant. Now i find out they load with a stripper clip. I will probably just hand load one at a time. Is there any trick to loading ?
I read on internet that the rim of the top cartridge needs to be in front of the rim of the lower cartridge, but is that for the stripper clip or handloading as well ? I tried to load a couple of rounds but had to put it about half way up the barrel and then push down spring and slide back into the magazine. It doesn't just "klick" into the magazine like a modern hunting bolt action rifle. Sorry if this is dumb, its my first mil-surp, thanks for any help.

Ebay has stripper clips pretty cheap, I just place my thumb on the top one and my trigger finger on the one below the top one and PUSH down.

thats all it took Zack, thanks, i think i was a little to timid, messing around with new gun not too familiar with. Yes I just pushed into place , works good thanks again

What type of mosin nagant you got? They are a blast, just got my 2nd one, its a m91/30 Its very easy to take the bolt a part :)

I load mine by hand. Everything I've read about those stripper clips says they're a PITA. The way I see it, the extra time loading it up is more time spent at the range. Always enjoyed that shooting or not.

Enjoy that Mosin! One of those most fun guns I own and a nice piece of history to boot!

I load the clips in my free time, watching tv. I do not waste time loading at the range I am paying for the hour and not going waste 5 mins to load a few clips I coulda done that at home. My 2 cents ;)

its a m91/30 , has 1943 date, assuming manufacture date so could be a "war" gun, got today at cabelas, $100, with sling, bayonet, ammo pouches. I like it so far, haven't shot it yet. always wanted a lee-enfield or mauser but i'm pretty happy with this if it shoots straight, we'll see.

You can get those big surplus cans of ammo for $85-$110 on the internet, you get 440 rounds, make sure you clean it well because it will rot your gun :( Hoppes #9 is the best stuff.

I bought another one from Cabelas last week!!! For $99 I got one in better condition than the one I bought out of the crate at a gun show for the same price! Came with all the accessories. While I was there a K-31 also followed me home. They both too nice to pass up

The Finnish clips are the best in my opinion. You load them in "wing" pattern with the rims overlapping the same direction, then insert with the front of the wing going into the magazine. Use the top cartridge to ram the others down. Works great, every time.
