this may sound strange to many, but does anyone know of any rail system that replaces the handguards on a mosin nagant? I thought if the idea when i saw how the barrel bands hold on the wood handguards. This would specifically be for an m44. would something like this have to be homemade or what?

Not commercially available, and from my first impression it doesn't seem to present a lot of use. It would be too unstable of a platform to reliably mount optics... The only thing I could think of you doing would be to add a flashlight or something. Doesn't seem like it's worth all the work in rigging your own.

obviously your not an operator. or youd know that Mosin Nagant M44's are ideal for forced entry and room clearing. Seal Team 6 and Richard Machowicz are designing a collapsable stock, 10 round version for use by Delta force and as well as the 3 -man Rapid Tactical Force at one of America’s largest indoor retail shopping areas...

ok, im done.

obviosly there isnt much of a demand for this type of thing. but there have been some things done.

Hoppy,

Sadly, there are some in congress that would seek to ban that for being an "assault rifle." I see "evil" features there.

I think the handguard is way too unstable on most Mosins. The only one that really locks it down tight enough is the M-39 with those huge steel clamps. The 91/30's handguard is very light weight and just has a crude friction fit. The M-91 handguard is notorious for slipping out and falling off during protracted firing. The recoil out there is truly fearsome, and the barrel on Soviet mosins will flex and whip around quite a bit.

The best bet is to use a Darrel's scout mount in the rear tangent sight bracket if you want a scope. For a home-made tactical light mount just use electrician's tape and wrap it around the wood with the light balanced underneath in the cleaning rod groove. Looks cruddy but I've tested it and it holds fine for 10-20 rounds before the light gets loose. Beyond that you wouldn't need it anyway.

If the concussion won't kill 'em, the muzzle flash will burn 'em ta death.
