I ordered 300 rounds of Bulgarian 180gr. Hopefully my MN likes this stuff. If not I'll be ordering some Czech stuff. I also ordered a 20 round box of Silver Bear 203gr. Cheap enough to try at $7.

Still can't find my camera charger.

Now I've got the itch to buy an M38 and an M44. Those will have to wait a little while, since I'm also going to be spending a few bucks on some handguns.

In my previous installment, I thought I came across a rare find:

In reality, its a Type 53. The stock was cut down and the barrel was cut a few inches, but the bore was bright, the crown looks good and the metal is clean so I decided to "restore" her. I think I like it better that a regular M44.

Hopefully, I'll try her out this weekend. On a side note, it's only 1" longer than my 10/22

Anyone wanna post a picture of your best 5 shot grouping?

Well I went out to try to do a nice grouping for you today at 50 yards using my newly cast/sized 314299 bullets @ .313 . . . (using my M44) I kept getting 3 of the 5 in to a really nice tight group and 2 would be flyers. The best I could do was about 2.25" - 2.5". If I could've figured out how to eliminate the flyers I think I could've been down around an inch to 1 1/4. I need to find the time to keep working on my trigger shims as I think that's going to be the "cheap" key.

I was playing with my 91/30 today (haven't shot it yet) and slugged the bore . .looks like my .313's will be the ticket . .the trigger on it is much better than my M44 w/o shims so if I get a chance this weekend I'll see what it can do.

yeah, simply hose down with windex to neutralize the corrosive salts, a little bit of water, then normal rifle cleaning. BE SURE TO DO A GOOD JOB ON CLEANING!

They get REALLY dirty. I cleaned my after the most recent shoot, thought it was nice and shiny, and looked down the bore a couple days ago and seen what I thought to be was pitting. put a brush and patches through there and seen that it was only residue from the last shoot surfacing after two months. I'd let it soak in a little bit of solvent for a while after shooting if i were you.

Alright finally got a chance to shoot the 91/30 that I've had since February. :)

1932 Tula
Hex Receiver
Beautiful bore

314299 (pure WW) sized @ .313
18.8 gr. 2400
WLR
Privi case

50 yards
5-10 mph wind.
NRA SR1 target

First three shots went into .41
Five shots opened group up to 1.44

I'm pretty sure the two that opened it up were me losing my concentration but who knows? It's much better than the 2 - 2 1/4 groups I've been shooting with my M44 . ..I'm pretty sure it's due to a better trigger on the 91/30

Yup, drifted the sight a hair last night and I'll have to see if I can do better. :) If it rains much this weekend I'm going to work on the trigger shims on my M44 . .I can't believe how much better my 91/30's triggers is than the M44. (I wonder if it's a pre-war vs middle of war thing or what?)

Have a good one,
Dave

Anyone wanna post a picture of your best 5 shot grouping?

No can do, my M44 can't put 5 shots onto a 8.5" x 11" piece of paper at 100 yards :p

I'll still have to see what I can do with my 91/30 :)

My M44 will when I get it's sights realligned. As stated somewhere before or in another thread, me and a friend went through 250 rounds. I let him shoot after my first stripper, and he shot and dropped it, knocking the sights out of allignment. We were shooting at 100 yards, and I did okay, I just wish I took a picture of the grouping. I believe it was about 3-5 inches.

found this over the weekend,1941 M91 with several cartridges for $75.00
never paid the mosins much attention until I stared visiting this forum
