Recoil

I can shoot about 60 rounds before it starts to bruise with the stock butt plate.

Thats more than "necassary" for sure.

Its not that bad. I guess recoil us subjective but I think a 20 guage shotgun has more recoil than a 91/30.

Well you guys pushed me over the edge - I ordered two 91/30's from AIM last week and two spam cans of ammo. I've got a good friend who just got out of police academy that I think needs one of them!

I'm already thinking I should have ordered 3.....

Picked up my Mosin yesterday. 1926 Tula hexagonal receiver. For its age it cleaned up pretty well. I love the simplicity of this rifle and can't wait to shoot it. Also met an awesome new small mom and pop gun shop, they were extremely friendly.

Before I left the main guy was like "you got ammo for that?" I said no, (as their price for ammo was about $15 more than it should be for a 440 rnd spam can), and he says here and hands me twenty rounds. While that doesn't seem like a big deal I've never had anyone in a shop ever really give me anything for free....hell I didn't even buy the gun from him he was just doing the transfer.

So because of that I said you know what I'll buy the spam can, he asked if I knew how to open it and if I had a heavy duty can opener and I said no so he opened it for me. I couldn't ask for better service.

If any of you are in Hampton Roads, check out this place. $20 transfer fee, of course from now on I'll check to see if he can get what I am looking for at a reasonable price so I don't have to buy online.

The Finns seemd to prefer "Hex" , but other than the machining on the forward part of the reciver, theres no difference in strength

actually there is a difference and the hex receivers are stronger but the hex shape is not the reason they are stronger.
there are two reasons a hex receiver is stronger, one the inner c-ring makes the action slightly stiffer and they have full barrel threads. round receivers have two large sections of the barrel threads broached out when the bolt lug raceways are cut making them more prone to stretching the barrel threads and increasing the headspace.
every barrel i've pulled from a round receiver had thread stretch and none that i've pulled from a hex receiver had thread stretch.

Finnish Mosin Nagants both pre and post 1899

I have two of these and they operate so smooth the difference is amazing compared with a Russian version. One is sub-MOA and the other is damn close. The one I ordered and received from Pat was exactly as described, 10 percent blue but all bright and shiny. It's the sub-MOA rifle.

The other I picked up here and was told it came from Pat. It's almost as good but has more blue. I've not tried to make it do any better as I think I'd have to bed the stock and don't want to change it.
