This started out as a rusty, pitted barreled action. Shortened it to 20", recrowned, filled in pits with JB Weld, filed and sanded smooth. removed rear sight base, used 3/8" to Weaver adaptor and steel Weaver rings to mount Leatherwood 2-7x Scout scope. All parts coated with Brownell's Aluma-hyde II in "Coyote." ATI 'glass stock of course. Still to do: I have a sweet Yankee Machine muzzle brake I will add if i can get somebody to turn the muzzle down and thread it for less than an arm and leg. Will do the standard home trigger job. Oh, I will do a full camo paint job. I have a sling and swivels too.

What is stage 2, may i ask?
Stage II will be completion of camo painting, trigger job, swivels and sling, maybe free-floating of barrel, and ... muzzle brake! If I can get a machine shop to turn down the muzzle and thread it for a fair price, given the total investment in this project (which is probably around $300 for scope/mount/rings, stock, paint, and misc. small parts - the rusty bbled action was a gift, near as I can remember).

I can't recall exactly what the guy's business is called....however there is a dude on the interweb who specializes in threading barrels and installing brakes on Mosins. A Google search should pop up a link to his site. He also has a link on his page to a guy who will do some real nice work to your bolt. I didn't have a brake installed, personally I think that with a good recoil pad, a brake is unnecessary. I did have my bolt modified, however, and the craftsmanship was outstanding. My Mosin bolt is now a fine piece of art (works better too). Thanks for sharing your project.

Follow up: Roscoe World is the guy who threads mosin barrels. Looks like his prices are very reasonable. He also performs other services on Mosins. Max Shepherd Bolt Products is where you want to go for bolt mods. He does an outstanding job and is an excellent communicator. Please update us when you complete this rifle. Thanks!
