rbernie, your assuming I have never fired this weapon. my father owned a 500, I hunted whitetail in Indiana with this, also extensive time on the R870 in the Military, (I know, not the same, but very similar design). But I will take this into consideration.

some of the local walmarts in my area don't sell firearms and driving 40 miles to save $30 seemed rediculous; I recently bought a Mossberg 500 field/deer combo from Dick's for $269 w/ $20 rebate; stand alone cantilever mount slug barrels are selling for $175 to $199 in my area, so getting the combo for less than $100 more was a no brainer; I have owned Mossbergs, Remingtons, Benellis, and a Browning in the past; what did I settle on? a Mossberg...simple, rugged, and affordable (the only 'upgrade' was a Bushnell Banner 2-7 x 36 scope since the 2.5 x 20 'package' scope took a dump early in its career)

If you are talking about a normal full stock with a pistol grip also...OK

Pistol Grip Only? ? ? No.

Pistol grips are for well....pistols. I tried a PGO on my Maverick 88...ONCE. It is how I became to be known as Rocky Raccoon for a couple of weeks....Some Shooting Budds & I were trying out PGO's just for grins...not TOO bad with the #7-1/2 & #8 target loads we were using. I loaded up a 3"Mag #4 Buck...one of the guys threw one of those dangerous "Clays", I swung it up like a normal-stocked gun BOOM!

OW! ! QUIT IT! I had a severely mooshed (but not broken) nose, 'fat lips' and a matched pair of "Shiners".

No more PGO shotguns for me..thankyew very much.

now, back to the original question..for $207, why isn't it already residing in your Artillery Locker?

Hmmm, $200 bucks. I may have to get a sister for my mossy 500 cruiser.
If you really want a pistol grip, (I have one) check out the Blackhawk Industries "Breachers Grip". Made for the Mossberg, and has a spring in the pistol grip to reduce the recoil on your wrist.

Buy it - but do not be shocked to find a LOT of plastic furniture on it.
I got a 500 with a 21" barrel on sale at Dick's in the fall for $179.
The trigger group, safety, and a few other ancillary parts are plastic.
Compared to my 1985-built 500, it's a dog - the quality seems to lag a bit.

Walmart also sales a Maverick 88, which is a mossberg 500 with some slight changes, for $177.

I purchased it, like the next day. I have arranged for a HD setup, but am keeping the 28" for hunting season. It's all wood furniture, no Plastic. Took her out the other day with some lead bird shot and reminded myself how much better a shot I am with a long gun. She kicks less than I remember, but I was smaller then, lol!!!!
