SOme years ago there was a discussion about the Bull Pup 500s and I commented that they originally had no sights and were meant to be pointed.
I found and old photo which was taken at the Shot Show in Atlanta GA when the guns were first introduced, I think January of 1983. The gun on the wall is a five shot and the one being held is the "high capacity" model.
Notice they have no system for aiming them at all.
The guy in the picture and I (who took the picture) right after this sat down with the Mossberg rep and drew the concept for the carrying handle and pistol like sights on a napkin at the table in the booth.
Couple or six months later we saw one at our local range with the carrying handle. The guy on our range did not believe us either when we told the story.
I sort of liked the idea, I did after all like the idea of the High Standard BP semi auto (favorite of Dick Tracey) and its flashlight. Just as theHigh standard turned me off with what the butt felt like when you pulled the trigger , the Mossberg was just too bulky for my taste.
When I finally got to shoot a Mossy BP it was alright, not as brutal as the High Standard BP and not as painful to me as the Remington 870 with the folding factory stock.
Memories, like the color of......oh sorry, just remembering this stuff and bachelor days with no worries about toy money....
