I just snagged one of these and wondered if anyone out there has had one, and can answer some questions for me about the sights.

On the carry handle mount, I take it that there's supposed to be sights in there, but mine has none - just two open screw holes. Where can I get sights that fit in there, with those two holes? Or otherwise fashion an alternative sight using those screw holes? Are they a standardized spacing? If so, standardized for __________?

The carry handle mount has ONE long slot for a long screwdriver to reach down and remove the rear screw (looks like) holding the carry handle on. After I remove that, how does one remove the front of the carry handle? There's no hole/screw up there.

Has anyone just removed the carry handle completely and installed a P-rail instead? Is there enough meat there in the metal to do it?

Thanks a million in advance.

Yeah, it's mostly a novelty, but I don't see how you can say that if you've never fired one, BA. It seems to function well enough just dry cycling and dry firing. But it is very very heavy for some reason, and the trigger is well, a bullpup trigger. Why they put a grip safety on it in addition to a crossbolt safety I'll never know. It's certainly a short little dude. I would probably have preferred no front pistol grip also.

I decided that I will be taking the carry handle off and installing a front and rear separate sights, and/or a P-rail.

They look cool. But that's about it. Very good idea. Poorly executed.

Clunky. Real crappy trigger.

Reminds me of the High Standard Models 10A and 10B, but they had integral flashlights and/or flashlight rails.

Hello Dr. T,
Congrats on your new Mossberg ---- how much did you pay ??? I tried to get one a few months ago but bidding went over $500 !!!

Also -- that is a unique Saiga S-12.

Paid $525 - $500 plus shipping. It's a fair condition one; it's been used a bit. I'll have to shoot it obviously, to determine whether it's useable for home defense or just a novelty. It would be hard for an attacker to grab your barrel as you came around a corner in your house; it's a real tactical advantage in my view. I'm trying to figure out where they hid the multiple lead bars in there, though.

I think it'd be fun to shoot a turkey with it. :)

I have one. Got it in 96 at an auction. The only thing that broke was the grip safety, which I considered unecessary in any case. It has one particularly good use-if you have to manage it inside a vehicle or in close confines of a vessel. It came with a vertical handle on the fore end which I disposed of forthwith.
Trigger is heavy, not necessarily a bad thing for this gun, as it has only one use-serious social discourse.
Limited to the standard mag capacity and reloading is awkward.
But for the 5 shots in close confines it is quite OK. I keep it in my work car where it rides just ahead of the front seat in a case I hung there. The sights in the handle groove are somewhat adjustable and mine is spot on at 30 yards, even places slugs OK at that range.
It is an acquired taste, but has a place, a small place.

Good luck on your turkey hunt. You could'nt hit'em on the roost w/ that thing! My brother bought one in the early 90's and it was pretty much a clunker. Believe it or not,he was in the Air Force with some dude who had to have it. This fella said all he had to trade was an old rifle, that ended up being a bisentennial Ruger mini 14! My bro asked,"Are you sure" and that cat ran outta there like he stole something! Go figure???
