Mossberg 500 vs 535??

The 535 has a 3-1/2" chamber, allowing you to use the 3-1/2" shot shells.

Depending on sale prices, you can find the 535 at the same price as the 500.

If they aren't on sale they are usually $25 - $50 more.

Unless you MUST have the 3-1/2" chamber, I'd say go for the 500. I have a 535 and don't shoot 3-1/2" shells any more...they just hurt too much.

Unless you're hunting high flying big birds, the 500 is good enough for everything else. Most people don't even use 3" shells never mind 3 1/2" shells...2 3/4" is good enough for most everything you need a shotgun for.

I got the 835 which, I guess, is like a "sporter" version of the 535. The main reason I got it was because it was on double-secret clearance, but other than that, I like having the option of shooting any length shell on the market. I never have shot 3 1/2" shells out of her, but if I ever have a yen, I can.
