I am new here. Hello all.

Had a question. I recently picked up a Mossberg 500A (that is what the receiver says), I am wondering if I can swap barrels with any 500 model? I just want to make sure that things are interchangeable before spending the money on a longer barrel. I am thinking of using for skeet and the like.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The A means it's a 12 ga. I believe the barrels are interchangable between 500's but not other Mossbergs, ie, 590's, 505's.

Oh, and the magazine tube is also a controlling factor. Since the barrel lug sits on the front of the tube, that also affects which barrels will fit.
(am I right on this? I know you cannot put an extended capacity tube on because of the barrel.)

500 and 590 are the same gun. 535 might be different because it has a 3.5" Chamber and the 500 is only designed for 3" maximum. I don't believe you will find a longer barrel marked 590 though because those models are usually of the "tactical" sort and employ just 18.5 or 20 inchers.

Check on the magazine tube though.

Actually what's your barrel you are looking to offload? I have a spare 28" vent-rib barrel that is ported and coned, and am looking for an 18" that fits a 500A.

Yep, Guns and more, you are correct. Any 6-shot 500 barrel will work.
The 8-shot models barrel lug are to far down the barrel, but they do make a 26" Accu-Choke barrel for them also.
Mossy model's 535, 590 and 835 barrels won't work on it.

The basic letter codes after the 500 are: A=12ga., B=16ga., C=20ga., and D=410ga.

I've had some of all of them at one time or another over the years. Great guns. Will last a life time.

I just purchased a mossy 500. I believe I read in the manual where the barrels will not interchange between models. I'll check again.

Whoa. Don't spoil me. Most here think I'm wrong (on other matters)
Thanks.

This is my first shotgun, and the barrel you describe sounds like what I would pick up. But I would like to keep the barrel that came with it. I believe it is a 20" with choke built in?

Well if that's all ya got then keep it. If you get rid of a 20" you will want one eventually, assuming you are anything like me and like to play around at the range on occasion.

I had planned on doing the same thing to mine and it's a good idea. Have the 18.5 for the house and a 28" for birds and clays. I'm afraid I'd get laughed at with my adjustable pistol grip stock and picatinny railed tac light forend out in the cornfield :D I had to get another gun for my self esteem.

Heres one on gunbroker, doesn't say if it's for the 5+1 or 7+1 magazine though, you would have to ask
28" barrel

Same for this one, it doesn't look quite right for the 6 shot magazine but maybe thats just the perspective on that long barrel Another 28", this one isn't ported They're around though.

Thanks for the advice. After further consideration, I think that I will end up getting another shotgun that is more clay specific.

Reciever is the same on all pump models so with mag tubes amd barrels you can do whatever you want.
