I just picked up a 20g mossy 500CG for $70 with 15 slugs and about 20 rounds of #6 shot. Wood furniture, 20" vent rib with imp cyl accu-choke. The stock has a big crack in it and the outside of the barrel is a little rough but I think it will clean up nicely.
Can anyone give me any info on the 500CG ? I dont see it on Mossbergs website.

IIRC I read somewhere that the "CG" stands for "crown grade". Supposedly a little better finish than the standard 500.

Thanks guys.
I do plan to change the stock and I may try to put a new finish on it. I've never done a refinishing job before but this might make a good project gun. The bore is like new. I wish he had taken as good of care of the outside as he did the inside.

I recently saw a "500CG" in a store that I liked, wondering if anyone had anymore information about these particular "G" models.

The one I saw had a 28" vent rib barrel with Accu-Choke, metal trigger guard, black trigger, metal safety, (nice looking) hardwood stock with pressed checkering - and here's the weird part - just a single action bar. From what I have read, the 500s were upgraded to dual action bars in 1970, but this gun did not appear to be a product of the '60s. Maybe this was some sort of economy model produced later? It was in near perfect condition and they wanted $230 for it.

The only thing I didn't like was the forarm seemed "torqued" a bit. As in, one side rode higher than the other as if it had been twisted. Dunno if the one action bar is bent or what.
