Mossberg (as far as I can tell) continues to offer it's 590 series with the bayonet lug. Do you think they'll cave in to PC and delete this feature at some point?

Not unless AWB II passes. At that point they will have to change it in order to comply. Frankly I don't see the point of the bayonet lug on a standard 590. I would think the barrel would get bent if it was ever used. Isn't that the whole reason for the heavy barrel model?

I had read somewhere that the heavy barrel requirement on the milspec 590A1 shotgun was a provision put in by the Navy as they wanted a barrel better suited to the tighter confines of a ship's steel interior...allowing it to withstand damage caused by inevitable rough handling, knocks, & accidental banging around while traversing the ship's unforgiving confined spaces.

All I can tell you is that my friend's 590 stood up just fine when we went all stabby on a tree stump the other day.

Like MrAcheson said, I don't think they will unless required by law. Don't forget that Mossberg has always been the scattergun maker that wasn't afraid of pissin' off the PC's; unlike some makers I won't mention ahremingtonhuh ;) sorry, something in my throat.
