Okay so my father has had this shotgun for a while now and has only shot it twice when shooting skeet.

After that, It was put away after being cleaned some and hadn't been used for some time. Well, After all that time we decided to go skeet shooting again, About two years later. I know long time, Huh?

Anyways, I had decided to completely disassemble my own shotgun which is a Mossberg 500AT 12 GA. It was pretty filthy and cleaned her good as new!

Now, I had to watch a video on how to take it apart and put it together. No problem, Worked fine. Now it was the 590 turn.

Watched the video for it and it was basically the same thing. When we decided to go skeet shooting, I noticed that when I loaded the magazine tube with any amount of rounds, When I would try to load it, The elevator did not bring up the shell!?

My brother was the person who reassembled it while he payed attention to the video. I was there to help. Maybe we missed something but we went over it and can't seem to find the problem.

So right quick....

Mossberg 590 was stripped and cleaned. Payed attention to video on how to disassemble and reassemble. Fails to load shells from magazine tube to chamber?

What could cause this? I looked at the cartridge stop & interruptor. They are in place correctly. What could be wrong?

Sorry if any terminology is wrong. Im trying to go by memory on what everything was called.

You might have a look at the cartridge stops in the reciever. Those are those two straight pieces of metal that drop inside the right and left side of
the reciever. It's possible that one of them might be bent so much that it's not functioning properly. If that's the case you can usually straighten them with ordinary hand pressure. They also may have been placed in the reciever backwards. Mini me has a really excellent step by step picture guide to disassembly and reassembly of the Mossberg 500/590. It should still be here and it probably wouldn't hurt to read through it.

Another thing you might want to check would be the grooves that the cartridge stop and interruptor sit in. If theres some excess dirt or grease in these grooves this would also hinder them from opening far enough to allow the shells to pop out of the magazine tube.

Take it back apart carefully, and reassemble it carefully. The Mossberg is one weapon that can be put back together and seem functional when it isn't.

Capstick,

I know the guide you are talking about. I had gone thru that one as well. I used it in disassembling my 500AT as well.

As far as the dirt and grease thing, We took it apart to clean it as much as possible. That's not to say that it couldn't have gotten oil there or something of the sort.

Chevy,

As far as I can tell they are. The only thing I guess I can do is to see if it's bent or if it was placed right.

I noticed that when I try to chamber it, The interruptor does move like the one in my 500AT....Anythings possible.

Ill check it again. Thanks for the ideas.
