I just installed one of these on my Mossberg 590A1:

The light mount is attached to the end of the magazine tube. It's distributed by Streamlight; $16.68 at copsplus.com, http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum2264.php

I just couldn't bring myself to spend the $350-plus for a Surefire forend attachment. Plus, I like the Speedfeed forend that's on the gun now. Also, the mount detaches in about 5 seconds simply by unscrewing the magazine tube nut.

The magazine tube nut of the Mossberg is serrated along the rim of the open end, and it "click" tightens on a nodule on the magazine tube retaining ring. I cut a channel with a Dremel tool for the nodule so the mount fits flush against the magazine tube retaining ring. Also with the Dremel, I ground down the arc that fits against the barrel so that the light mount could easily slide onto the magazine tube.

Even without the magazine nut "clicking" on the nodule, it seems like a pretty tight and solid fit. I'm thinking I could cut some grooves in the light mount to mesh with the serrations in the magazine nut, if necessary -- that is, if it doesn't stay tight.

I just ordered a Streamlight TLR-1 to mount on it. I'll post some pics -- if I can figure out how.

Speaking of pics, how can I get rid of the size label at the bottom of the picture, above?

Interesting. I wonder why they couldn't have the dimples put in the piece.

Should be easy enough (for a decent sized company) to make one out of some kind of plastic.
