I want to buy a 590A1 and am thinking about the three dots vs. the Ghost Rings.

I can shoot a shotgun off either shoulder, so the GR's only work with the right side. I was thinking that the three dots might be easier to work with the non-dominant eye. Does anyone have experience with the 3 dots?

I really am not looking to compare the 590A1 with any other shotguns. I have shot them all and like the 590A1 the best.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Depends...what is the primary use for this weapon?

For instance, I have a Benelli SuperNova Tactical w/GR sights and I love it...for mid to "long range" use...primarily using slugs. For this, I find it to be a bit "faster" vs. rifle type sights, even with my cross-dominant issues (I have to slightly close my left eye in order to "force" right eye dominance), as it allows me to "dial in" my target a bit better. But, thats just me. However, for HD purposes, I have a 590 w/a front bead sight only as I have come to respect the acquisition speed of this sight regarding closer ranges.

Its a tough decision, but if I had my choice I would opt for the GR sights. However, the rifled sights might be a bit easier to deal with in terms of maintenance/ease of replacement. Personally, I dont think you would be giving up too much going with either. Might I suggest, if possible, firing a shotgun with both setups and see which one you prefer. All other advice aside, this might be your best bet.

Now, if this is meant to be primarily an HD/close distance weapon and you do not plan on heavy slug use/long distance shooting, I might skip the GR/3-DOT sights and opt for a front bead only (then possibly replace it with a Meprolight front bead for night use) as, in this case, I really do not see much advantage in using a sight primarily meant for long distance efficiency.

Very good thoughts In-Sight. Thanks.

I generally use my shotguns as an all around weapon. I like to hunt rabbits with it and shoot close trap as well. Of course it's primary duty would be around the house to keep things safe. Most of my shooting is w/in 35 yards for this type of SG. I guess I should consider the bead.

Thanks,

Matt
