So I just found out about the New Mossberg 590S. According to the Mossberg website, "it has a redesigned Elevator and Bolt Slide, and an addition of an energy-absorbing Bumper." I assume the energy-absorbing bumper is some kind of recoil reduction device which doesn't interest me in the least. The redesigned Elevator and Bolt Slide do.
The redesigned Elevator and Bolt Slide enables you to fire mini shells without the opsol mini clip adapter. I'm not sure if both parts play a role in this or just one part. I have a theory for each part.
I suspect that the modification to the elevator is simply extending the tung (or tab) so that the mini shells or shells in general can no longer fall through the Elevator.
Edit: just found a vid of someone shooting it and they did indeed extend the tung/tab. No way to see the Bolt Slide though.
I suspect that the modification to the Bolt Slide is putting more material on the rear, middle, or front, bottom facing part of the Bolt Slide, preventing mini shells from riding up all the way to the back of the receiver and flipping around.
It also appears they modified part of the trigger group and that might help with shooting mini shells, but its hard to tell.
Edit: Just found a vid where a guy points out where they added some rubber (to the trigger group).
Now I just need to get a look at the Bolt Slide . . . it appears tho that they just cut a slot into so the little rubber piece has clearance.
Can anyone confirm/deny my theory?
If I'm correct, assuming they fit a 500/88, I could put them on my 88 and have an 88 capable of shooting mini shells without the opsol mini clip, right?
