An acquaintance of mine bought himself a Mossy 702 tactical chambered in .22LR. His "BOSS" was not happy and now he wants to sell it to me for 200 bucks. Anyone own one and like it? Normally I have a strict "No Thanks" policy on .22's. I own more of them than I use as it is. Basically, I need to stop what I shoot and I rarely shoot things I am not trying to stop. My second issue is much the same, if you are going to own a semi-auto rifle in the category of tactical why would you waste the time on a .22? I'm not big on Airsofts or anything that mimic's an assault if its not...

BUT!

It is kind of cool, his wife is really pissed and I also have a strict "I'll Take It!" policy on a low cost firearm.....

Any takers?

Why waste time on a .22? Well, first of all a .22 is a great training aid in learning the fundamentals of shooting. You can shoot all day with a .22 for around $20. You can shoot for 10 minutes using $20 worth if .223. And lastly, EVERYONE needs to have at least one .22 in the safe at all times.

Now, as far as the 702 is concerned, I have no experience with it a but have read/heard positive reviews.

I have plenty of .22's in the safe, fundamentals are all good here as I have top training under my belt and equally passed some on....

A .22 is fine. It will stand (i'm sure) as the first caliber most people shoot. Awesome. I understand they are cheap to shoot, that is great. I have at least half a million .22 rounds in a great big box so I could shoot it till my nose bled...If I wanted.

My statement was why waste time on a .22LR IN AN 'ASSAULT' platform... Unless you would carry it into battle, don't pretend it is an assault rifle...I am talking about the chamber of this specific platform, not every .22 out there...

for your average plinker, a tactical AR clone in .22LR isn't required. But, as the 702 tactical is an AR clone, it is a great training tool for those who use an AR (military, cops, etc.) It looks to have the same ergonomics to a typical AR, so it builds muscle memory and weapon familiarization without the expense of .223/ 5.56 NATO rounds.

I like it, and if/ when I purchase another .22 for myself, I'm seriously considering the Mossberg 702.

Ultimately, I'd consider it's primary purpose, as if it needs one, to be a low cost AR trainer.

With that said, I might do it. Thing is brand new he hasn't even shot it. So what the hell, 2hundred for a brand new gun, sure. Just please don't make me do anymore familiarization...:banghead:
