I would like to know the power difference between a regular 12 gauge shell and the 3.5mag.I have an older 835 pump and a Browning 12ga.BPS.I'm not into shot guns very much But I paid twice as much for the Browning then I did for the Mossberg"mossy" was used.I haven't shot eighter one in yrs.My father in law loves the 835 for turkey is that what the 3.5in shell was made for?And is it equal to a 10ga performance wise?Ialso noticed the 835 has a wider barrel end then the BPS.Wouldn't a Magnum shot gun sell for more than a standard 12 gauge?

The 3.5" shell was invented to hold enough big steel shot to kill geese at long range.

If you don't hunt migratory waterfowl, and especially geese, with the Federally required steel shot, there is no logical reason for the 3.5" Mags existence.

It most certainly won't kill a turkey any further then a 2 3/4" or 3" mag turkey load.

BTW: Rumor has it that the American Chiropractors Assoc had something to do with it too!

Ialso noticed the 835 has a wider barrel end then the BPS.
Mossberg's 835 has a "back bored" barrel, which allows more room for a long shot string from a 3.5" shell to spread out more in the bore like the same weight charge in a 10 Ga.

The Browning always used slim trim barrels in keeping with their higher quality.
BTW: Rumor has it Mossberg uses old sewer pipe for barrel material too.

I will call baloney on the previous poster's comments. A 3.5 inch magnum gives you 50% more range on a turkey than a 2 and 3/4 shell, 50 yards vs 30.
