Is the Streamlight TLR-1 and tape switch the standard? What are some other options? This would be mounted on the barrel clamp rail out as far as possible. I don't want any shadow or as little as possible. I don't like switches on AR15s but if it looks like the shotgun will call for one.

Other options? The Surefire X300 would be the direct competitor, but it is also $200 more. However, I recently witnessed an X300 take a 9mm slug hit directly and it continued to work.... While I like my TLR-1, I don't think it would hold up to that.

I thought of that, I also though of thing to protect the cord by wrapping it in something or puting it in a sleeve of some type.

It depends, the TLR-1s is brighter (by a little bit). And it is not just a strobe, it is a momentary on/off and constant on as well. I don't think you will be disappointed with the TLR-1.

And I wouldn't worry about wrapping the cord in anything.

I have a TLR 1 already and like it a lot. It was on a pistol first now a rifle. I might move it to the shotgun and get another TLR1 or a TLR1 HP for the rifle. I think Streamlight is a good value.
