I am wanting a fast cycling (and reliable) tactical auto for 3-gun matches and I am leaning towards the Mossberg 930 SPX. My question is, can the 18.5" barrel be machined for choke tubes? Is there an advantage for having choke tubes in an 18.5" barrel? The steel targets at the some 3-gun matches are at varying distances and some are at 30+ yds, and the ammo requirement has maximum shot size of #6 lead. Any thoughts or experiences?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

The 930SPX comes with a CYL bore barrel, buckshot would be effective to about 30-35 yards, slugs are good much farther. Having a gun that you can change the choke tubes is an advantage, especially if you're are competing at longer ranges.

There is plenty of "meat" on the barrel of the SPX to have chokes installed, most gunsmiths will charge between $35 - $50 for the ream and tap, then you'll have to buy chokes.
