My Mossberg 930 (a regular one, not an SPX not that it matters for this) has an annoying habit.

If the bolt is locked the rear and you release the bolt while pushing up on the lifter, the lifter gets up in front of the bolt and locks up. The only way to fix it is to drop the trigger/lifter group and reinstall it.

Is this normal? Obviously the answer is not to play with the lifter and the bolt release at the same time, but it does seem like a flaw.

I have had the same problem when attempting to press the bolt release with my left hand underneath the gun. My hand sometimes pushes in the lifter, ever so lightly, at the same time I press the bolt release. I have discovered that the bolt release quits working so the lifter won't drop back into place. Rather than drop the trigger/lifter group and reinstalling it, all I had to do was manually push in the opposite side of the bolt release (inside the action) and the lifter drops right back down. I need to develop a method for pressing the bolt release without touching the lifter as the lockup occurs frequently. Hope this makes sense and helps.

"Hey, Doc, every time I put my tongue between my teeth and then bite down it hurts. Is there any advice you can give me to stop the pain?"

"Have you tried NOT putting your tongue between your teeth before biting down?"

Which is the irreverent way of asking, "WHY are you pushing up on the lifter while operating the bolt release?"
