Hello folks.

I am slowly getting my wife into shooting. She has never fired a gun before. So far she has tried my Sig Sauer Mosquite 22LR. She seemed to have liked it but she enjoyed my scoped M4 more.

She voiced her interest in clay shooting. I have been looking at the Mossberg 930C semi auto in 12 gauge. I am eyeing this since I can trade it in for my Remingtin 870 pump 20 gauge with collapsible stock, which can be replaced by the Mossberg, since it comes with the 28" barrel for clay shooting and the 18" barrel for home defense.

My question is: Will the recoil on a semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun be too much for mony small 5'1" 105 pound wife? Or shall I just go ahead buy the Mossberg 920 semi auto 20 gauge for her?

Thanks for your inputs.:)

Take your wife to a shotgun club and explain your situation. They may be able to let her borrow, or at worst, rent, a few types of gun. 12 gauges are not going to knock her on her butt, but an ill-fitting gun, especially one too long, will beat the snot out of her shoulder. Gun fit is critical, especially for smaller-statured shooters. Use light target loads in as heavy a gas-gun as she can hold, and she'll love it.
