Just picked up a Mossy 935 (3.5" mag autoloader) and the manual says not to shoot slugs out the of the overbored barrel:

935TM Models: are designed to fire 12 gauge 3" or 3 1/2" factory loaded shotshells only. Do not fire slugs of any type (single projectile ammunition) through the overbored 935TM Accu-Mag barrel. This barrel is designed to shoot lead or steel pellet shotshells only. Use only 935TM barrels designated specifically for slug shooting.

If an overbored barrel has a larger bore than a standard barrel, would it hurt it to shoot slugs out of it?

It seems to me that it would be less accurate, but wouldn't harm the barrel.

Thoughts?

The 935 does indeed have a larger than standard 12 ga bore. Accuracy with slugs would be terrible, you might get some gas blown by the slug, in general doesn't sound like a very good idea.

Thanks rc.

I was just thinking it might be nice to be able to fire shot or slugs through the same barrel if the need arises. Mossberg doesn't offer a smoothbore slug barrel for the 935 only a rifled barrel. Oh well, I've got a 500 that will do that when needed I guess.
