I can't help but ask: is this for real? I mean, I've never shot a 12 gauge, but wouldn't the recoil be too much to handle without a shoulder stock? Is something like this even worth buying?

I like the idea of having a small compact 12 gauge you can pull out in an emergency, but it seems like more of a novelty from a bad action movie where nobody ever reloads and there's no recoil. :p

Shotguns with only a pistol grip and no real stock are of very limited utility.

The concept here is of merit. However, we use best shotguns we know well, and having this locked away reduces the chances of it being well learned. Of course, one can have multiple examples of a model, and keep one sealed up and use another for play, food and training.

Shoot with low recoil buckshot loads, they aren't too bad.

You've got to figure, if you're using a pistol grip you're going to be shooting at fairly close range - 15 yards or less.

The low recoil stuff is manageable, I wouldn't want to shoot a 3" round out of one....

Ugh, most people just don't know how to use a PG only shotgun.

You shoot it just like you would if it had a stock. The back of the reciever is about 10 inches from your shoulder, at shoulder level, in front of your shoulder, NOT YOUR FACE!

Also, this is a last resort kinda thing and it would be much better than nothing.

Pretty pointless, really. You end up with:

1. Slower times
2. Less accuracy
3. practically limited to low-recoil rounds
4. Utility being further limited at any range beyond "close"
5. a sore wrist

...all in order to save a little length. Now, if you absolutely must save that length? Sure. Have at it. But realize what you're giving up.

Can some people shoot them well? Sure. But, those same people would also be able to wield a stocked shotgun with even greater rapidity, if they devoted the same amount of effort to it.

They're for looking cool. Great for movies and videogames. Bad for real-life use. Cops have to jump out of cars every day...their shotguns have stocks. There is a reason for this.

i shoot slugs through pistol grip shotguns all the time. Like rugerdude said, you shoot it as if it had a stock. Of course its for self defense and not trap/skeet but sometimes no stock + short barrel definetely has advantages.
