Mossberg Maverick Information

I need some anwsers from you knowledgeable shootgunners. I am considering buying a Mossberg Maverick with a 20" barrel and composite stock strictly for a home defense weapon in case of the SHTF scenerio. The price is under 250.00 for a new one and I do not plan to use this for anything more than to stow it in my closet(no little ones in the house). I am quite familiar with shotgun operation and do own hunting and trap shotguns. My questions are as follows: 1. Is this a good shotgun? 2. Are the regular Mossberg and 870 barrels interchangable with this model? and 3. Will the aftermarket Mossberg 500 stocks fit the Maverick(for example pistol grip stocks)? Any information you can give me would be most appreciated Thanks!

I have the exact same shotgun, the 7+1 20" maverick security. Yes, its a great HD shotgun. I have put 2000+ rounds through mine with zero problems. The only problem with this shotgun is that the only barrel that interchages with it are the three barrels listed here http://www.maverickarms.com/pages/barrels.htm Its not really a big deal since the 28" barrels comes with screw in choke tubes.

Yes, l the stocks that fit the mossberg 500 fit the maverick.

I have a long barrel model 88, all black synthetic furniture. I think its a fine gun and have never had a problem. As for the stocks they are exchangable with the model 500's however the forends tend to not be.

I say its a good bang for the buck, I like mine very much.

The 18.5 inch 6+1 shot security will have more barrel options than the 8+1 20 inch model. Either way a dern fine gun

If you want to put a pistol grip stock on the gun, EVER, then you need to buy the Maverick and NOT the Mossberg. The Mossberg 500 has a tang-mounted safety. You cannot disengage the tang-mounted safety with your strong hand on the Mossberg with a pistol-grip stock. Little design flaw there. You can with the Maverick. Good hunting.

1) Yes. But shoot it for at least a couple hundred rounds to break it in and flush out any bugs. NEVER take an untested weapon into a serious situaton.

2) Mossberg 500 barrels, for the same length magazine tube, yes. Remington 870 barrels, NO.

3) Yes.
