Mossberg/Maverick Question

Do the Mossberg 500 & Maverick 88 pump shotguns have a smaller receiver in 20 ga, or are they all built on the 12 ga size receiver? Just wondered: this morning's paper had a classified ad for a nice little house gun: Mossberg 500, 20 ga, 18.5" bbl, never fired, $185. I shouldn't, but if it's a lighter slimmer shotgun, I just might!

After all, a .54 caliber smoothbore repeating carbine is nothing to argue with.

Mossberg uses the same receiver for both the 12-and 20-gauge shotguns. The barrels and mag tubes are are smaller on the 20-gauge.

Thanks- I was afraid of that. I spent a fair portion of my youth toting an old Model 17 Remington 20 ga- it was all scaled to 20 ga, a nice trim little shotgun. Most modern repeaters seem to be guilt on a 12 ga size frame. :banghead:
